Kirsten W. Schwehm, PhD
Dr. Kirsten W. Schwehm is a Clinical Psychologist who has been in practice for 13 years. In addition to providing psychological assessment and treatment with the Baton Rouge office of Jefferson Neurobehavioral Group, Dr. Schwehm works as the Louisiana State University Ombudsperson, providing informal conflict resolution services to staff and faculty. She earned her PhD and MA in Clinical (Medical) Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is licensed to practice in Louisiana and Mississippi. She is on the National Register of Health Services Providers in Psychology, and she holds a Certificate of Professional Qualification in Psychology.
Before joining Jefferson Neurobehavioral Group, Dr. Schwehm worked for 5 years as a Clinical Assistant Professor with LSU Health Sciences Center, coordinating assessment and treatment for youth in secure custody. She had previous clinical and administrative appointments at the Mississippi State Hospital and the VA Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi.
Dr. Schwehm offers cognitive-behavioral, empirical approaches to the treatment of anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, ADHD and behavior problems, alcohol/drug abuse, marital difficulties, and adjustment to chronic pain and medical diagnoses. She works with children 12 and older, adults, and geriatric clients. Assessment services include evaluation of possible ADHD and learning disabilities, cognitive complaints and suspected dementia, psychological diagnosis and treatment recommendations, the role of mental health issues in symptom presentation, adjustment to pain, and psychological risk factors for medical procedures.
